Blocked Drains & Drain Unblocking — Available 24/7

A Blocked drain? We clear it. Same day where possible.

Whether it's a kitchen sink that's stopped draining, a toilet that won't clear, an outdoor drain overflowing after rain, or a drain that keeps blocking no matter how many times you've cleared it — this is what we do.

Your Local Drainage is based in Bournemouth. We cover a wide area across England and Wales — for domestic properties, landlords, letting agents, and commercial premises. We're available 24/7 for emergencies and for same-day or next-day planned jobs.

Blocked Drains We Clear

We clear blockages in every type of drain and waste pipe — indoor and outdoor, domestic and commercial.

Kitchen Drains

Grease, fat, and food debris are the most common cause of kitchen sink blockages. We jet through the build-up and clear the pipe — not just the immediate blockage, but the coating on the pipe walls that causes it to re-block.

Bathroom Drains

Hair, soap, and mineral build-up in bath, shower, and basin waste pipes. Slower to develop than kitchen blockages but just as complete when they finally close off.

Blocked Toilets

Wipes — including those labelled 'flushable' — sanitary products, and excess paper are the main culprits. We clear the blockage and check whether the cause is behavioural or structural.

Sewer Connections

Where a blockage is further down the line — in the shared sewer or the connection between your property and the main drain — we trace and clear it.

Commercial Drains

Grease traps, kitchen extraction drains, car wash bays, and industrial floor drains. Commercial premises generate higher volumes of material and need more frequent maintenance. We handle planned and reactive commercial unblocking.

How We Clear Blocked Drains

We use two primary methods: high-pressure water jetting and manual drain rodding. The method we choose depends on the type of blockage, the pipe condition, and where in the system the problem is. We assess before we act.

High-Pressure Water Jetting

A powerful jet of water blasted through the pipe at high pressure. Cuts through fat, grease, silt, and most organic blockages. Scours the pipe walls clean rather than just pushing the blockage further down.

Best For :

Fat and grease build-up (kitchen drains)

Silt and mud in outdoor drains

Root matter after cutting

Recurring blockages that keep coming back

Commercial kitchens and food premises

If you're not sure whether your situation needs immediate attention, call 0330 128 1329 and describe what you're seeing. We'll give you an honest answer, no pressure into a callout you don't need.

Manual Drain Rodding

A flexible rod pushed through the drain to physically break up and clear a blockage. Quieter, lower-pressure, and appropriate for situations where jetting could cause damage or isn't practical.

Best For :

Solid obstructions — rags, wipes, objects

Older or fragile pipework

Accessible blockages near inspection chambers

Initial clearance before a CCTV survey

How we decide which method to use

On most jobs, the type of property, the location of the blockage, and what the customer describes tells us roughly what we're dealing with before we arrive. When we get there, we check the drain properly — lifting the access cover, assessing what's in the chamber, and judging whether the blockage is likely to respond to jetting or needs a rod first.

What Causes Blocked Drains?

Most blocked drains have one of a small number of causes. Understanding the cause matters because it affects whether the blockage is likely to come back.

Fat, grease, and food waste

The most common cause of kitchen drain blockages. Hot fat poured down the sink cools and solidifies on the pipe walls. Over time, layers build up until the pipe closes off. Once a kitchen drain starts blocking due to fat, it'll keep blocking until the pipe is properly cleaned and the disposal habits change.

Wipes and sanitary products

'Flushable' wipes are not flushable in any practical sense — they don't break down the way toilet paper does. They build up into dense masses. These blockages are usually sudden and complete.

Hair and soap build-up

Bathroom waste pipes block gradually with a combination of hair and soap residue. The blockage tends to develop slowly until it becomes complete. These are usually straightforward to clear but will recur if the pipe isn't cleaned thoroughly.

Silt, mud, and leaves

Outdoor drains accumulate silt, mud, leaves, and debris over time, particularly after heavy rain or in autumn. These build up gradually until the drain can't cope with normal rainfall.

Tree roots

Tree roots grow toward moisture and find their way into drains through cracks, joints, and any weak point in the pipe. A root blockage cleared by jetting will typically return within months unless the underlying pipe damage is also addressed..

Structural issues in older pipes

Pipes sag, joints separate, and sections collapse over time — particularly in older clay or pitch fibre pipes. A structurally compromised pipe will block repeatedly because the pipe itself is the problem, not just what's in it.

If Your Drain Keeps Blocking

A drain that clears and then blocks again within weeks or months is usually telling you something about the underlying pipe condition.

The most common reasons:

The pipe wasn't cleaned fully — the blockage was pushed through rather than removed

Root intrusion has cracked or partially closed the pipe

A section of pipe has sagged or collapsed

The pipe has a bellied joint that retains debris

The disposal habits causing the blockage haven't changed

If we clear a blockage and it comes back, the right next step is usually a CCTV survey — not another jet wash.

FAQS

Drain Unblocking — Common Questions

  • How much does drain unblocking cost?

  • Can you come out the same day?

For most locations in and around Bournemouth, same-day availability is usually possible. It depends on the time of day you call and how busy we are. The quickest way to confirm is to call 0330 128 1329 — we'll tell you immediately when we can get there. For urgent situations, we're available 24/7 including evenings and weekends.

  • What's the difference between drain jetting and drain rodding?

High-pressure water jetting uses a powerful jet of water to cut through blockages and scour the pipe walls clean — best for fat, grease, silt, and organic material. Manual rodding uses a flexible rod to physically break up and shift a solid obstruction — better for objects, wipes, and situations where jetting pressure might be an issue. We assess which is right for your specific drain before starting.

  • Why does my drain keep blocking?

A drain that clears and re-blocks within weeks or months usually indicates something beyond a simple one-off blockage — root intrusion, a cracked or sagging pipe section, or a partially collapsed joint that retains debris. A CCTV survey is usually the right way to find out what's actually going on in the pipe.

  • Is the blockage my responsibility or the water company's?

If the blockage is on a private drain within your property boundary, it's your responsibility. If it's on a shared sewer that serves more than one property, it may be the water company's responsibility. We can help identify where the blockage is located so you know who's responsible before paying for a repair.

  • Do you leave the site tidy after clearing a blocked drain?

Yes. Drain clearing involves accessing chambers and sometimes working near garden surfaces or driveways. We take care around the property throughout and leave the site the way we found it.
